Opportunity: Kiwanis Teenager of the Year Award

Kiwanis is an organization committed to serving the children of our world and making an impact in our local communities. Kiwanis can be found in 85 nations throughout our world and has over 250,000 members, each of whom is committed to service. The Kiwanis family now has a program for youth at each level of their educational career (elementary, middle, high, and college).  The Capital District of Kiwanis International (composed of all the Kiwanis Clubs in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia) was organized on August 29, 1918 with only two clubs. Now, over 100 years later, the Capital District remains active with 7 regions, 20 divisions and over 170 clubs.

Kiwanis is seeking applicants for the Teenager of the Year Award. The purpose of this award is to give recognition to deserving teenagers for their academic achievements, citizenship, service to their school and community, growth and responsibility in his/her family unit, character, and leadership performance. The Teenager of the Year Award welcomes applications from young people between the ages of 13 and 18.

Applicants will be judged on a local level, and have the opportunity to progress though the competition at other regional levels. The overall winner at the district level will be awarded the title of 2021–2022 Capital District Teenager of the Year, a cash award of $2,500, and a trip with their parents/guardians to the Kiwanis District Convention currently scheduled to be held in Baltimore, MD August 19-21, 2022.

The details and application may be found by visiting their website.  You may also view a short Youtube video in which Kiwanis members and the past winner provide insight to the process.

The application may be submitted anytime through February 01, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. The application is extensive. Before completing, applicants must read and adhere to the specific guidelines that can also be found at the above link.
